Pro Tour Paris Metagame

I’ve just been looking at the data that WOTC has published for the Pro Tour Paris. You can check out the percentage breakdown of decks played here – http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/eventcoverage/ptpar11/feature/stdmetagame

I though it might be interesting to look at a Pareto analysis of this data.

Taking the data, I find that 80% of players played just 7 out of the 26 different decks fielded (27%). The 7 decks were:

  • Valakut (21.78%)
  • UB Control (20.75%)
  • Caw-Go (13.90%)
  • Kuldotha Red (7.47%)
  • Vampires (7.05%)
  • Boros (5.81%)
  • Quest (3.73%)
Contrast this with what made the final Top 8:
  • Ben Stark’s Caw Go (1st)
  • Paul Rietzl’s Boros (2nd)
  • Vincent Lemioine’s Boros (3rd)
  • Naoki Nakada’s UW Sun Titan Control (4th)
  • Nico Bohny’s GW Quest (5th)
  • Patrick Chapin’s UB Tezzeret (6th)
  • Tom Martell’s Caw Go (7th)
  • Shintaro Ishimura’s UW Control (8th)

It is interesting how, despite Valakut being the most played deck, no-one managed to top 8 with it.
