As Adaptive Automaton enters the battlefield, choose a creature type.
Adaptive Automaton is the chosen type in addition to its other types.
Other creatures you control of the chosen type get +1/+1.
Hmm, an Artifact Creature as well. I feel an affinity/tribal build coming on.
Along with an addition in the Wallpaper section, the whole of the M12 Core set has now been posted on the WOTC MTG site. So, if you want to see what is retained from the previous core set, what are reprints from other sets, and all the totally new stuff, check them out here:
It is interesting to remember, that originally, core sets contained reprints of previous cards. A way of enticing new players. Now the core sets are full of new cards which introduce interesting new cycles to Magic The Gathering and have a much greater impact on the metagame.

To get a feel for the overall sales strategy surrounding Magic 2012 (M12) Core Set Release, it’s a good idea to check out the Sales section of the WPN site. Nothing like being an informed purchaser. Check out the pretty timelines here:
The Magic Arcana blog on the WOTC MTG site has posted deck lists for the 10 (2 for each colour, this time) M12 sample decks which are normally given out as promos at conventions and when you go in to get a promo card as a result of purchasing Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012. Here is the link. Check out the 2012 card spoilers at the bottom of this links page.
A number of 2012 (M12) cards were previewed on the main Wizards MTG site as part of a discussion about new and returning mechanics. http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/144
First up there is the 2G, Creature – Treefolk, Dungrove Elder.
The new ‘evergreen’ keyword on this card, Hexproof, has been seen before, it’s just not had a specific keyword assigned for the ability, “This creature can’t be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control”, until M12.
While the, 3WW, Creature – Archon, Archon Of Justice, features the use of ‘shorthand’ for what was previously, "is put into a graveyard from the battlefield", and is now simply, “dies”.
There is also the return of a keyword, Bloodthurst, here on the 2RR, Creature – Minotaur Warrior, Gorehorn Minotaurs.
So, "Bloodthirst N" equals "If an opponent was dealt damage this turn, this creature enters the battlefield with N +1/+1 counters on it."
It also looks like certain Planeswalkers will be in the set, here is the 3BBB, Sorin Markov.
