Magic: The Gathering Deck Builder’s Toolkit – Unboxing

May 24, 2010 1 comment

So, on Saturday I got hold of my Deck Builder’s Toolkit from Quantum Frontier

Once I got it home I filmed various stages of the unboxing and I have been editing and uploading to YouTube over the weekend. Check out this link to take you to the playlist to see all the parts of the unboxing.

The card lists, for each pack in the box, are at the end of the Description for each video.

I hope to do some more videos about the economics of starting up Magic: The Gathering and various buying/trading strategies that are open to players/collectors. This is particularly aimed at players with limited resources who would still like to play with some degree of competitiveness.

Magic: The Gathering – Deck Builders Toolkit

May 20, 2010 2 comments

Really looking forward to checking out the Deck Builders Toolkit when it is released on Friday 21st May 2010.

So far I have heard that Quantum Frontier are stocking it and I will update this post once I find out who else is stocking the Deck Builders Toolkit, as I become aware of them in and around Halifax/Dartmouth and beyond. I am also hoping to do a proper breakdown of the product once I get my hands on one, which I will then post on YouTube. In the meantime here are some videos that have already been posted by Star City Games in relation to the Deck Builders Toolkit.

UPDATE: My new post about unboxing

Easter Booster

This Saturday we were out buying a new washer and dryer as the old washer was making some very demonic sounds last washday.

So, seeing as Home Depot is over at Dartmouth Crossing it seemed only the right thing to do to swing by D& M Sports cards just around the corner in Burnside Industrial Park and treat myself to a couple of Worldwake booster packs to enjoy over the Easter break. Well I’m not a big fan of sweeties.

However, I was a very good boy and waited until Sunday morning to open the first pack, here is what I got:

Phyrexia vs. The Coalition

April 1, 2010 1 comment

I was out dropping off some leaflets for future delivery and so I had to take a trip over to Burnside Industrial Estate in Dartmouth, where the Canada Post depot is. While I was over there I could not help but pop into D & M Sports Cards on Iisley Avenue and see if they had the Magic: The Gathering Phyrexia vs. The Coalition Duel Decks. Sure enough they had several packs in stock, so I bought a pack along with some Ultra Pro black chromatic deck protectors for a ‘black’ deck I have and a single Worldwake booster for my card collection.

If you are wondering what’s in the Duel Decks here is the link to the product listing on the Magic: The Gathering web site. It gives the deck list for both decks in the pack.

I did try filming an ‘unboxing’ but I need to work on my camera/composition skills a bit as I went ‘out of frame’ for several cards.

Anyway, when I got back from my excursion, after doing some other shopping for easter, I sat down with a nice hot drink and opened up my Worldwake booster, here is what I got.

Magic: The Gathering “Hobby Stores” in Halifax & Dartmouth

March 27, 2010 2 comments

On checking the MTG Store & Event locator on the website it currently lists 2 “Hobby Stores” close to Halifax/Dartmouth, NS.

  1. Quantum Frontier Games & Comics
    3087 – A Robie St
    Nova Scotia
    B3K 4P7
  2. D & M Sports Cards
    100 Ilsley Ave Unit L
    Nova Scotia
    B3B 1L3

I’ve visited both. Quantum Frontier stocks a number of other items not related to MtG and so it is just a part of their overall stock of games and comics. However, they also have MtG related events, so I would suggest checking thier website.

In some ways D&M Sports Cards is a more interesting stockist, from my point of view as a collector, because they specialise in cards and so carry a lot of additional items for protecting, storing and displaying cards as well as appearing to have some older stock  available (various decks from earlier blocks, when I was in there).

Note: D&M may be moving premises at the end of April.

D & M Sports Cards are now located at

201 Chain Lake Drive,
Unit 16,
Bayers Lake,

It’s on the same block as the Dragon Buffet King, directly behind the Mcdonalds.
